For millennium the Chinese have enjoyed a group of medicinal liqueurs commonly known as Jius. These liqueurs are used to address a broad range of disorders, but they are also enjoyed as daily tonics. A very kind old Chinese herbalist told me that he always started the day with a small shot of his favorite Jius. He also told me he was nearly ninety and still enjoyed an active sex life. Some close friends discovered a stash of the stuff in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Like the old herbalist, they reported just a small bit of the liqueur helped start the day with a sparkle, made them feel more vigorous, and the effects did indeed translate to the bedroom.
One of the most popularly used botanicals in the Chinese Jius is the bark from a plant called Acanthopanacis gracilistylus. The bark is macerated in wine, brandy, or a liquor made from fermented sorghum. It yields a slightly sweet herbal flavor. Its warming, harmonious and nontoxic.
We’ve made a highly concentrated extract of the Acanthopanacis which you can use to spike the alcoholic beverage of your choice. Enjoy!
