Asana
AsanaYou might try to file this one under Trance/Rave/Yoga/World Music/Electronica. An inspiring amalgam of music with a groove so deep it dissolves the mind/body into bristling energetic meditative repose. It debuted at the reknowned Jivamukti Yoga Center in New York City, and was so well received that it invaded raves and dance clubs around the world. 60 minutes.

Faces of Epiphany by Kenji Williams
Faces of Epiphany by Kenji WilliamsKenji Williams uses orthodox sounds like violins and old line drum sounds mixed with progressive electronica making Faces a favorite in our personal soundtrack. We'd like to dub a new genre after it called Organica because it’s completely danceable and basic, yet spiritual enough to just lay back and meditate on if you’re so inclined.

Seamless transitions make it hypnotic at times giving a feeling of transcendence, no matter what your state of mind. Kenji's ABA structure takes over and takes you on an ecstatic journey and back again.

Mondo Rama
Mondo Ramaby Jai Uttal and the Pagan Love Orchestra

Mondo Rama is not what it first appears to be. It’s actually an ascension - using instruments like the harmonium, sarod, and berimbau while adopting a contemporary vibe. Music that compels one to think of religions, past and present, human conditions, idealism, and absoluteness itself. It’s dark and ambient in someplaces, then light and intensified in other spots leaving you wondering about things you never thought twice about before. Even their cover of the Beatles “Tomorrow Never Knows/Shivaya” is something transcendent.

Searching for the right genre to put this in, we realize there is no category. Then we think, why bother? Music is not something to be classified nor stereotyped. It’s something to be enjoyed and passed on.

Sorcerer
SorcererBy Michael Stearns and Ron Sunsinger.

When musical artists Michael Stearns and Ron Sunsinger first encountered the books of Carlos Castaneda in the 1970's, they say it forever opened a doorway into the strange, vision realms described by the Yaqui Sorcerer, Don Juan. Inspired by years of practice walking the deserts and mountains of the Southwest, experimenting with the techniques described in Castaneda's accounts, the two created this album as a tribute to the late writer.

It's a stunning, shape-shifting musical journey into the non-ordinary realities of the sorcerer's world. Deeply ambient and ever morphing between the extremes of light and shadow to reveal a landscape that is both beautiful and dangerous, serene and stormily surreal. Do not file under "easy listening", this is surprising, strong audio medicine!

One customer described it as "the audio equivalent of a nightime walk through the high desert with a bellyful of peyote and a pinch of Datura".

Audio CD 53 minutes.
