Throughout the Amazon basin this woody jungle liana is revered as the "vine of soul" or "vine of the dead". It is one of the primary ingredients in the sacred and powerfully entheogenic Ayahuasca brews. Though many different plants are often incorporated as admixtures, B. caapi is clearly one of the shaman's "most efficient tools" (Raffauf & Schultes 1992).
When combined with tryptamine-rich plants like Psychotria viridis, its MAO-inhibiting alkaloids render these brews orally active. Its use is a testament to the remarkable pharmacological sophistication of the shaman's practice.
We offer the Cielo (Sky) or yellow cultivar of Banisteriopsis caapi. It was originally brought back from the forests of Peru by Terence McKenna and is said to be the most visual of the different types of Caapi that the natives use, one of the favored and most desired varitey by the "curandaros" of the Amazon rainforest. Our grower's stock comes directly from ...Of the Jungle, who originally grew out Terence's culvitar for sale.
We are offering freshly harvested vine from mature, plantation grown plants. The vine is carefully dried and then coarsely milled and not intended for human consumption.
